The Cancéropôle Grand Sud-Ouest is glad to announce the second edition of its scientific event aimed at young scientists, in Montauban, in the Hôtel Spa&Resort "Abbayes des Capucins", from the 1st to the 2nd of December 2014.
This 2 day-coaching event will involve presentation and discussion of recent findings and future projects in the scope of Genomic Instability in Cancer. The format of the meeting (focussed scientific research themes, less than 40 participants, full pension in an isolated – yet beautiful – place) is deliberately designed to foster exchanges and communication between junior and senior scientists and strengthen research networks between the Great Southwest labs. See the workshop annoucement >>
Objective
This workshop aims to allow young scientists to improve their ongoing projects and enhance the quality of their publications. Selected speakers will have the opportunity to present and discuss their work with renowned experts in the field:
................ Oscar Fernandez-Capetillo, "Genomic Instability” group leader, CNIO, Madrid
................ Sebastian Nijman, “Functional Cancer Genomics” group leader, CeMM, Vienna
................ Frédéric Coin, “Genome expression and repair” group leader, IGBMC, Strasbourg
A training session on publication strategies will be provided by Bernd Pulverer, editor in chief of the EMBO Journal and head of scientific publications.
Audience
The total attendance is limited to a maximum of 40 participants in order to preserve fruitful exchanges.
................10 young researchers (from young PI to advanced Post-Docs) will be selected for the coaching of their projects.
................30 young researchers from labs affiliated to GSO will be selected to attend the workshop.
Participants selection will be made upon the scientific quality of proffered projects and candidates' resume.
Deadline to submit your application : October 19, 2014
Scientific scope
It is now established that the alteration of genomic integrity through mutations and chromosomal rearrangements is a component of the development of cancers. Many teams within the Cancéropôle GSO are involved in deciphering mechanisms of impaired genomic stability, in the fields of genome replication, DNA repair, chromatin compaction, or maintenance of epigenetic marks. Their findings, associated with the understanding of resistance mechanisms, are expected to provide new therapeutic avenues, especially through synthetic lethality approaches.
